Nitrous Sedation

Nitrous Sedation

At our office, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax during your dental care procedures, including extractions, restorations, root canals, implants and crown and bridge preparations. Nitrous oxide is used widely by dentists to provide you  relief from pain and discomfort and  is a proven  & safe sedation method. Nitrous oxide induces a feeling of deep relaxation when inhaled, in addition to alleviating pain. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after your treatment, and even children can use nitrous oxide safely to calm dental anxiety.  Nitrous oxide can make your dental experience more comfortable.

Nitrous oxide is administered to the patient through a breathing mask/ apparatus worn over the nose. Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide takes effect in just a few minutes. Our well trained and experienced dental team will monitor you throughout your procedure to make sure you are tolerating the nitrous well. Once the breathing mask is removed, the effects wear off within a few minutes, and you won’t have a hangover feeling as you would with other sedation methods. You can safely resume work or drive after a few minutes.  The other effects of Nitrous include tingling sensation in the limbs, feeling of warmth, floating or light drowsiness or giddiness.  Nitrous oxide may lead to a case of the giggles, which is why it’s often referred to as “laughing gas.” If you suffer from discomfort, stress or  anxiety during your dental care procedures, and it has been keeping you away from the dentist office, ask us about Nitrous oxide as an option.
